HOW HEARING WORKS

Discovering the world of Sound
1.

Outer Ear content

The Pinna (visible outer portion of the ear) functions to pick up sounds around us, transmits them internally through the ear canal towards the ear drum and perceives the direction of sound.

2.

Middle ear content

As the connecting chamber present between the outer and inner ear structures - the sound signals are further transmitted through the mechanical movement and vibration of the Ear drum and Ossicles (Malleus, Incus and Stapes).

3.

Inner Ear content

Comprises of the core hearing structures - the Cochlea and the Auditory nerve. The vibrations received, move the fluids housed within and generate electrical impulses that are transmitted to the Brain, where comprehension occurs.

Conductive Hearing Loss

Conductive hearing loss occurs when there is a problem with the ear canal, eardrum, or middle ear and its tiny bones i.e. malleus, incus & stapes.

Mixed Hearing Loss

Mixed hearing loss is a combination of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. which is due to a problem in the outer or middle ear and in the inner ear.

Single Sided Deafness (SSD)

Single-Sided deafness is when one ear is normal or near to normal i.e. good ear and severe to profound hearing loss in the other. In this, the person affected more or less only hears with one ear.
